Trivino wins and Putman moves up
August 18, 2013
Lou Trivino tossed five innings of shutout baseball as the Vermont Lake Monsters (A's, short season) defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones on Saturday evening 1-0. Trivino is now 3-3 with a 2.79 ERA. Dave Putman was promoted to Kannapolis (White Sox, A level) after posting a 1.08 ERA at Great Falls with three saves. Three former Blazers are pitching well at the AA level. Darin Gorski (Binghamton, Mets) has a 4-1 record with a 2.06 ERA while Frank Gailey (Midland, A's) has three saves with a 2.50 ERA in 54 innings. Pete Andrelczyk (Jacksonville, Marlins) has two saves with a 1.42 ERA. J.D. Reichenbach (Carolina, Indians) is 4-3 with a save and a 3.51 ERA at the High A level while Vince Voiro (Beloit, A's) has a 5-5 record with two saves and a 3.72 ERA in the Midwest League. Ryan Buch (Modesto, Rockies) is coming off the DL. In the rookie leagues Tim Mayza (Bluefield, Blue Jays) has a 1-2 record while Jerry Mulderig (GCL, Pirates) has two saves. Chris Nichols has a 2-1 record with a 1.72 ERA for Williamsport (Phillies, short season) in the New York Penn League.

Blazers sweep Pilots
July 31, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers finished the 2013 season on a high note as they defeated the Jersey Pilots 2-0 in both games on Wednesday evening. Brandon Kulp tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener as Corey Baiada and Mike Constantini both contributed two hits with Constantini and Musser getting the RBIs. Kevin Long pitched two scoreless innings of relief to notch the win in the second game. Long added two hits. The score was 0-0 until the top of the 8th inning when Jeremy Musser doubled to right to score Brandon Martinez with the lead run. Alex Kowalczyk doubled in Musser to give the Blazers a 2-0 victory and 20-20 record. Martinez topped the ACBL with 52 hits and finished second with a .377 batting average. Tyler Brong and Kowalczyk were tied for first in the league with eleven doubles. Mike Weinhold was the strikeout leader with 59 Ks while Constantini was the stolen base leader with 23 which also broke the Blazer season record of 22 held by Hans Stancil.

Blazers sweep Catz
July 30, 2013
Jeremy Musser hit a walk off single to deep left centerfield to score Brandon Martinez with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Blazers a 4-3 win over the Catz in the nightcap. Martinez lead off the 9th with a single to right, stole second base and advanced to third with an overthrow to set up Musser's game winner. Martinez had three hits including a home run while Musser, Tyler Brong and Dan Hoy each added two hits. Jared Shaffer received the win in relief of Cameron Retif. Bobby Reddick hurled six innings of shutout ball to give the Blazers a 5-2 win in the opener. Brong, Mike Constantini and Musser each had two hits while Alex Kowalczyk hit a two run home run. The Blazers are now 16-18 on the season and travel to the Jersey Pilots for a 5pm doubleheader tomorrow to conclude the season.

Blazers lose two
July 29, 2013
The Trenton Generals moved to the top of the ACBL standings with a 27-13 record as they defeated the Quakertown Blazers 2-1 and 8-0 on Monday. Jeff Courter allowed only one run over seven innings in the opener; however Trenton scored an unearned run in the bottom of the 9th inning for the 2-1 win in the opener. Mike Constantini and Alex Kowalczyk each had two hits. The Blazers host the Lehigh Valley Catz in a doubleheader beginning at 5pm on Tuesday night.

Blazers and Eagles Split a Pair
July 27, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers kept their playoff hopes alive with a 4-2 win over the North Jersey Eagles in the second game of a doubleheader at Memorial Park. The Eagles won the first game 7-1 as Alex Kowalczyk posted two hits with an RBI for the Blazers. Mike Constantini went three-for-three in the second game and Kowalczyk added a two run double for the Blazers. Marty Martens went the distance for his sixth win of the season.

July 26, 2013
The North Jersey Eagles defeated the Quakertown Blazers 9-6 in a battle for the final ACBL playoff spot. Brandon Martinez, Alex Kowalczyk, Tyler Brong, Jeremy Musser and Dan Hoy each contributed two hits for the Blazers. The Blazers host the Eagles in a twinbill starting at 1pm tomorrow (Saturday). In the minor league update former Blazers Tim Mayza and Lou Trivino had good outings as Mayza only allowed one run in four innings as the Blurfield Blue Jays defeated Princeton 6-3. Trivino gave up one earned run in 6.1 innings with seven strikeouts as the Vermont A's defeated Tri City 5-3.

Railers Blank Blazers

Karl Keglovits and Max Mueller combined to toss a three-hit shutout as the Allentown Railers defeated the Quakertown Blazers 6-0 on Thursday evening. Brandon Martinez had two hits for the Blazers and tops the ACBL with a .411 average. The Blazers host the North Jersey Eagles on Friday evening in a battle for the final playoff spot.

Quakertown Tops Pilots 7-1
July 24, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers improved to 15-15 as they defeated the Jersey Pilots 7-1 on Wednesday evening. Brandon Martinez posted four hits while Mike Constantini, Tyler Brong and Alex Kowalczyk each added two hits. Brong had two doubles while Kowalczyk and Dan Hoy each had a double. Cameron Retif received the win as he only allowed one run in six innings. The Blazers host Allentown on Thursday and North Jersey on Friday evening.

Blazers lose two to Trenton
July 21, 2013
The Trenton Generals defeated the Quakertown Blazers 3-0 and 8-6 this afternoon in Memorial Park. Dan Hoy hit a three run inside-the-park home run in the second game for the Blazers. Tyler Brong, JT Crits and Casey Saverio each posted two hits in the second game. On Monday evening the Blazers host the ACBL All-Star game and then return to Memorial Park on Wednesday. The Blazers dropped to 14-15 on the season while Trenton improves to 21-13.

Blazers sweep Eagles
July 20, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers improved their record to 14-13 as they swept the North Jersey Eagles 4-0 and 17-4 on Saturday. Kevin Long allowed only four hits as he pitched a shutout in the opener. Cory Capaldi hit a two run homer for the big offensive blow for the Blazers. All of the starters had hits in the second game as the Blazers collected 20 hits. Alex Kowalczyk showed the way with four hits including two doubles and a home run which accounted for five RBIs. Capaldi, Dan Hoy and Brandon Martinez each contributed three hits with Hoy and Martinez each having a pair of doubles. Marty Martens allowed two runs over five inninings to notch his fourth win. The Blazers return home on Sunday as they host the Trenton Generals in a 1pm doubleheader. On Monday evening eight Blazers will particpate in the 7pm ACBL All-Star game at Memorial Park.

Eight Blazers selected for All-Star game

Jeff Courter, Ryan Filipowicz and Mike Weinhold will be the Blazer pitchers on the ACBL West All-Star team when they host the ACBL East All-Star team on Monday evening July 22 at 7pm in Memorial Park. Alex Kowalczyk will be a cather on the West team while Tyler Brong and Mike Constantini have been selected as infielders. Brandon Martinez and Jeremy Musser round out the Blazer entries as outfielders. Mark Angelo will be one of the assistant coaches for the West All-Star team.

Blazers sweep Catz
July 18, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers defeated the Lehigh Valley Catz by scores of 4-3 and 6-5 on Thursday evening. Drew Blanco received the win in the first game with one inning in relief of Jeff Courter and Ryan Filipowicz notched the save. Alex Kowalczyk posted two doubles and Mike Constantini added two hits. Mike Weinhold struck out eleven in winning the second game as Bobby Reddick got the save. Tyler Brong had two hits and two RBIs while Brandon Martinez went three-for-three.

Blazers split with Generals
July 12, 2013
Kevin Long scattered three hits as the Blazers defeated the Trenton Generals 4-1 in the second game. Corey Baiada and Mike Constantini each had two RBIs while Kevin Jewett and Brandon Martinez added two hits apiece. Trenton scored three runs in the seventh inning thanks to a shaky defense and won the opener 4-3. Jeremy Musser went three-for-three in the first game. The Blazers return to Trenton for a 1pm double header on Saturday.

Blazers net two wins over Catz
July 4, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers defeated the Lehigh Valley Catz 10-1 in the completion of the suspended game. The Blazers were leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning when play resumed and they unleashed a powerful offense with a seven run fifth inning. Jeremy Musser contributed four RBIs and Cory Capaldi added three RBIs. Musser, Capaldi, Brandon Martinez, Alex Kowalczyk, and Kevin Jewitt each had two hits while Tyler Coleman went three-for-three. Jeff Courter allowed only one run over three innings to pick up the win. Martinez had two hits in the second game to pace the Blazers to a 3-1 win. Marty Martens picked up the win and Ryan Filipowicz finished with two scoreless innings. The Blazers host the Staten Island Tide on Saturday in an 11am doubleheader.

Blazer schedule update
July 1, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers will complete the suspended game of June 27 at 5:30pm on Thursday the fourth of July. The Blazers were leading the Lehigh Valley Catz 1-0 after three and one half innings when the game was suspended because of lightning and rain. A seven inning game will follow and then fireworks will conclude Community Day. On Saturday July 6 there will be an 11:00am DH with the Staten Island Tide.

Courter, Blazers Blank Railers

The Quakertown Blazers defeated the Allentown Railers 7-0 in a game halted by lightning after seven innings. Mike Constantini topped the Blazers offense by going four-for-four with four RBIs. The West Virginia infielder had a double and triple also, Jeremy Musser, Tyler Brong and Casey Saverio each contributed two hits. Jeff Courter pitched six innings of shutout baseball and Ryan Filipowicz closed out with a scoreless seventh inning. The Blazers host the Catz in a 5pm Doubleheader on Thursday evening.

Special Blazer Nights this week

On Tuesday June 25 the Blazers host the Allentown Railers as part of Upper Bucks Y night. All members receive free admission. On Thursday evening at 5pm the Blazers host the Lehigh Valley Catz in a DH starting at 5pm. Thursday night will be Chick-fil-A night.

Blazers Blank Pilots
June 20, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers defeated the Jersey Pilots on Thursday evening 6-0 behind the pitching of Mike Weinhold. Weinhold hurled seven scoreless innings and Rob Reddick closed out with two scoreless innings. Alex Kowalczyk went 3-for-5 with two doubles and JT Crits was 2-for-4 with a double. Brandon Martinez contributed a two run double in the second inning. The Blazers are now 5-6 while the Pilots dropped to 2-9 on the season.

Blazers take a pair from Pilots

The Quakertown Blazers won the first game 5-4 as Corey Baiada's ground ball got by the Pilot third baseman in the bottom of the seventh inning. Brandon Martinez, Jeremy Musser, Alex Kowalczyk and Connor Crookham each had two hits for the Blazers. Crookham delivered a two run home run in the second game as the Blazers won 6-2. Martinez went 3-for-4 and Musser was 2-for-4. Marty Martens went six innings for the win and Brandon Kulp closed out with a scoreless ninth inning. The Blazers host the Trenton Generals on Tuesday evening.

Blazers Split with Railers
June 15, 2013
The Quakertown Blazers defeated the Allentown Railers 2-1 in the opener as Brandon Martinez drove in Mike Constantini with a single to right center in the top of the 10th inning.

Ryan Filipowicz picked up the win after four scoreless innings of relief. Starter Mike Weinhold allowed only one run in six innings and Martinez went three-for-five.

The Railers won the nightcap 1-0 behind the pitching of Casey Cooperman. Jeremy Musser had two hits for the Blazers.

The Blazers host the Pilots on Sunday in a 1pm doubleheader at Memorial Park.

Three former Blazers drafted

Lou TrivinoTim MayzaPitchers Lou Trivino (Slippery Rock) and Tim Mayza (Millersville) and Jerry Mulderig (Rider) were among the 33 former or current ACBL players drafted in the recent 2013 First Year MLB Draft. Trivino, a graduate of Upper Bucks Christian High School, set SRU single season (92) and career (227) strikeout records. He was drafted in the 11th round by the Oakland Athletics. Mayza, a graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, posted a PSAC-best 1.55 ERA and was selected to the Daktronics All-America Third Team. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 12th round. Mulderig, a graduate of Council Rock South, was an All Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference selection as DH, but was drafted as a pitcher in the 28th round by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He posted a 3-2 record on the mound with opponents hitting .229 against him.

Catz Outslug Blazers 12-8

The Lehigh Valley Catz defeated the Quakertown Blazers 12-8 at Easton High School this evening. Corey Baiada and Tyler Brong both homered for the Blazers and Conner Crookham had two hits with two RBIs. The Blazers host the Catz tomorrow at 7pm in Memorial Park.

Blazers split on Opening Day
June 2, 2013
The Blazers opened their 30th season by splitting a doubleheader with the Allentown Railers. Allentown won the first game 4-3 despite Brandon Martinez going four-for-four for the Blazers. Tyler Brong broke open a 2-2 tie with a two run single in the bottom of the fifth inning to lead the Blazers to a 5-2 win in the second game. Reed Shuttle pitched a scoreless seventh inning to get the save. The Blazers travel to Easton on Wednesday for a 5pm game with the Lehigh Valley Catz at Easton High School.

Mayza added to Martinez Watch List

The award is presented annually to the outstanding player in NCAA Division II Baseball. Mayza joins former Blazers Lou Trivino (Blazers,2011) and Robbie Zinsmeister (Blazers,2010) on the watch list. Mayza has an 8-1 record for Millersville and has posted a 1.26 ERA in 64.1 innings. The 6-3 LHP has a WHIP of 0.92 and opponents are hitting .196 against him. Mayza has struck out 59 with 15 walks. Trivino has a 5-3 record with a 2.14 ERA in 54.2 innings with Slippery Rock. The 6-5 RHP has struck out 61 with 14 walks and opponents are hitting .191 against him. Zinsmeister is hitting .398 with 16 stolen bases in 17 attempts. He plays SS, 2B and CF for Indiana University of PA and tops the PSAC in runs (40), doubles (14), triples (7),total bases (91) and slugging percentage (.711).

Former Blazer Lou Trivino puts up zeroes

Former Quakertown Blazer and ACBL All-Star Lou Trivino, pitched a no-hit shutout on Saturday afternoon to lead Slippery Rock past Bloomsburg in a 10-0 win. The 6-5 RHP struck out seven and walked two as the Rock improved to 5-0 on the season. The Upper Bucks Christian grad hurled a one-hit shutout last week against Tiffin in his first start of the season. In 14 innings Trivino has allowed only one hit with six walks and fourteen strikeouts.

Mayza started the new season by hurling 5.1 shutout innings at Winston Salem State on Friday. BA also named Jerry Mulderig (RHP, Rider) as the third top prospect in the MAAC Conference. The NCBWA announced the initial watch list for the fourth annual Tino Martinez D2 Player of the Year Award. Two former Blazers, Lou Trivino (RHP, Slippery Rock) and Rob Zinsmeister (SS, IUP) are among the nine former ACBL players on the list.

Vogelsong Tabbed for World Baseball Classic

Former Blazer, Ryan VogelsongRyan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) has been named to Team USA which will participate in the World Baseball Classic beginning March 7, 2013.
Vogelsong was instrumental in the San Francisco Giants winning the World Seies Championship as he went 3-0 in four postseason starts with a 1.09 ERA in 24.2 innings. During the regular season Vogey posted a 14-9 record with a 3.37 ERA in 189 innings over 31 starts.
A 2011 National League All-Star, the 6-4 right-hander netted 27 wins over the past two seasons with a 3.05 ERA and 297 strikeouts for the Giants.
