Gorski added to Mets rosterDarin Gorski (Quakertown, 2007; Kutztown,2008) was recently added to the New York Mets 40-man roster. The 6-4 LHP went 9-8 with a 4.00 ERA in 24 starts for Binghamton (AA) this summer. In 2011 he was the Mets Organizational Player of the Year after going 11-3 with a 2.08 ERA for St. Lucie (High A). He was a seventh round pick of the Mets in the 2009 draft and will join former Kutztown Rockie Zach Lutz on the Mets roster. Eric Smith (Stamford, 2007) was added to the Arizona roster also. The 6-2 RHP was a second round pick of the Diamondbacks in 2009.

Mark Angelo Named Quakertown Blazers ManagerAngelo played for the Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League from 2006-08, hitting .364 in 2008 and was drafted by Seattle in 2009 and hit .272 as a first baseman and outfielder for the Mariners affiliate in the Arizona League. Angelo was an All-Patriot League selection and a Patriot League Scholar-Athlete at Bucknell University As a graduate student at East Stroudsburg University in 2009, Mark set single season records for hits (77), multiple-hit games (28), doubles (21), home runs (12), rbi’s (58) and total bases (136). Angelo served as a graduate student coach at ESU, an assistant coach at Hunterdon Central High School, and instructor at the Diamond Nation Baseball Academy. Angelo is looking forward to returning to Quakertown where he played American Legion and high school baseball and providing current Blazers with the opportunities he had to improve as a college baseball player throughout the summer. Mark played under legendary Blazer manager, Denny Robison, as did former Blazer managers, Clay Kuklick and Mike Schneider. Angelo succeeds Lee Saverio, Jr., who guided the Blazers to the Wolff Division playoffs in 2011 and 2012. Saverio, a former head coach at LaSalle University, is returning to Division 1 coaching as an assistant at Lehigh University.

(Courtesy of US Presswire) Ryan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) did not allow a run over five and two-third innings as the Giants won 2-0 to take a 3-0 lead in the World Series. Vogey is now 3-0 in four postseason starts with a 1.09 ERA. His 1.09 ERA is the lowest for a starter with at least 24 postseason innings since Oral Hershiser's 1.05 ERA for the Dodgers in 1988. He became only the third pitcher to make four postseason starts in which no more than one run was allowed. He has not allowed more than one run in seven straight starts since mid-September. The 6-4 RHP has had T-J surgery. In addition he has traveled through 10 minor league cities and two in Japan over the past 15 years with stops in the Arizona Fall League and Venezuela. It's great to finally see him succeed in a World Series game.

Vogelsong forces NCLS Game 7Ryan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) pitched his second superb start of the NLCS as the Giants defeated the Cardinals on Sunday night 6-1 to force a game seven on Monday night. Vogey allowed only one run and four hits in seven innings while striking out nine Cardinals. He has a 2-0 record with a 1.29 ERA in the NLCS and an overall ERA of 1.42 in three post season starts.

Former Blazer, Ryan VogelsongRyan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) provided a much needed boost to the San Francisco rotation as the Giants defeated the Cardinals 7-1 on Monday night to even the NLCS at 1-1. Vogey scattered four hits and allowed only one run in seven innings as he became the first Giant starter to last seven innings in the postseason. Previously Vogelsong only allowed one run in five innings against the Reds to spark a three game comeback in the NLDS. In twelve postseason innings Vogelsong has allowed only two runs for a 1.50 ERA.

Vogelsong finishes strongRyan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) allowed only two hits and no earned runs in five innings as the Dodgers defeated the Giants 5-1 in the regular season finale. Vogelsong was removed after five innings since he may be required in relief for games one and two with the Cincinnati Reds. The 6-4 RHP has allowed only one earned run in 17 innings over his last three starts. He finished the season with a 14-9 record and 3.37 ERA. In 189.2 innings he struck out 158 with 62 walks and posted a 1.23 WHIP.

Blazers Season Ends with One Run Loss

North Jersey scored the go ahead run in the eighth inning on Ryan Quinn's double to gain a 6-5 win over the Blazers in the rubber game of the Wolff Division semifinal playoffs. The Blazers' playoff run is over and the Eagles travel to Mercer County College for a 4pm game on Wednesday to begin the Wolff Division finals. Jeff Wiand had three hits and three RBIs while Tyler Brong knocked in two runs with a single in the seventh inning. Brian Ruditys added two hits for the Blazers.

Blazers Win Playoff Opener

Tyler Brong's two run double in the fifth inning was the key blow in the Blazers 5-3 win over North Jersey on Sunday afternoon. The Blazers scored four runs in the fifth inning as Jeff Wiand added a run scoring single and Dylan Tice contributed a sacrifice fly. Brian Ruditys knocked in the fifth run with a double to deep center in the sixth inning. Mike Weinhold pitched six innings for the win. Jim McDade allowed one run over two innings of relief and Adam Zipko struck out the side in the ninth for the save. The Blazers travel to North Jersey tomorrow in an attempt to sweep the Eagles

Blazers Rally Past Pilots
Playoffs Begin on Sunday
July 27, 2012
The Blazers won their fourth straight game on Friday evening as they came from behind to defeat the Jersey Pilots 6-4. The Blazers scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game 4-4 and posted two runs in the eighth inning for the victory. Adam Zipko pitched two scoreless innings for the win while Jeff Wiand hurled a 1-2-3 eighth inning for the save. Dave McInerney singled in the winning run in the eighth and Andrew Farris' single provided the insurance run. McInerney had two hits and Tyler Brong posted two doubles. Tyler Coleman added a solo home run and single also. The Blazers finished in second place with a 21-19 record and begin the playoffs by hosting the North Jersey Eagles on Sunday at 1pm in Memorial Park.

Blazer's Double Up Pilots 8-4

Dave McInerney's two run home run in the sixth inning was the key blow as the Blazers defeated the Pilots 8-4 on Thursday evening. Jeff Wiand had three hits while Tyler Coleman and Tim Ravel each added two hits. Colin Gotzon pitched a complete game for the win. The second game was suspended by rain and will be continued at 5pm tomorrow. The Blazers are now 20-19 on the season.

Blazers shine in win over the Railers

Matt Hollenbeck K's nineThe Blazers defeated Allentown 11-2 on Wednesday evening behind outstanding pitching, a solid offense and errorless defense. Matt Hollenbeck was perfect through the first five innings and allowed two runs in seven innings while striking out nine with no walks. Tim Ravel, Jeff Wiand, Dylan Tice, Dave McInerney and Craig Lepre each had three hits while Brian Ruditys added two. The Blazers are now 19-19 and travel to Jersey for a regular season ending DH tomorrow.

Quakertown, Lehigh Valley Split DH

Lehigh Valley won the first game 4-1 behind the solid pitching of Westyn Baylor. Craig Lepre went three-for-three with two doubles for the Blazers. The Blazers edged the Catz 5-4 in the nightcap. Darren Lauer received the win while Adam Zipko got the save. The Blazers (18-19) host the Allentown Railers at 7pm Wednesday evening in the battle for a playoff spot.

Blazers Split DH with Catz
July 21, 2012
Mike Weinhold, Darren Lauer and Adam Zipko combined to toss a three-hit shutout as the Blazers won the second game 1-0. Zipko received the save after a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Lauer gets the win after pitching a scoreless fifth and sixth inning. Tyler Brong singled in the second inning and scored the deciding run on a double by Greg Guers. Ryan Hartley and Jeff Wiand each had two hits in the opener. The Blazers are now 17-18 and host the Catz in a 5pm doubleheader on Tuesday.

Railers top Blazers in another slugfest

Greg Guers had 6 RBIs and Tyler Brong went five-for-five, but it was not enough as the Allentown Railers defeated the Blazers 17-11 on Tuesday evening. Guers hit two and three run home runs to deep rightcenter field while going two-for-five. Brong had two doubles and Jeff Wiand added two hits including a two run home run. Tim Ravel had three hits. The Blazers are off for the All-Star break until Saturday when they host the Lehigh Valley Catz in a 1pm doubleheader.

Blazers lose Slugfest
July 16, 2012
Despite fifteen hits the Blazers lost to the Allentown Railers by a 12-9 score on Monday evening. Tim Ravel, Tyler Brong, Greg Guers, Tyler Coleman, Craig Lepre and Brian Ruditys each had two hits. Brong had a three run double plus a solo home run over the scoreboard in left centerfield. Guers hit a two run shot to deep right centerfield while Tyler Coleman homered halfway up the screen in rightfield. The Blazers are now 16-16 and travel to Allentown tomorrow night.

The Allentown Railers put up back-to-back five run innings to rout the Blazers 13-3 on Friday night. Tyler Brong and Dave McInerney each had two hits in a losing cause. The Blazers (16-15) return to Allentown on Monday evening for a 7pm start. In other news Dylan Tice was selected to the Wolff/Kaiser All-Star team for the Annual All-Star game on July 19 in MCU Park. The middle infielder is hitting .368 (42-114) with two home runs, twelve doubles and 20 RBIs.

Tyler Urps drove in the winning run in the top of the tenth inning to give Lehigh Valley a 9-8 win over the Blazers. Tim Ravel and Jeff Wiand each had two hits for the Blazers as they fell to a 15-14 record. The Blazers visit the Catz tomorrow evening in a 7pm start at Hacketts Park.

Brian Ruditys had 3 hitsBrian Ruditys capped a three run ninth inning rally by driving in Ryan Hartley with the winning run on a single to deep right center field. Ruditys had three hits while Hartley, Craig Lepre, Dylan Tice, and Jeff Wiand each had two hits. Jerry Mulderig pitched the ninth inning to obtain a win in the 8-7 victory. The Blazers host the Lehigh Valley Catz tomorrow evening at 7pm. The Railers won the suspended game 8-1 despite two hits for Tice and Dave McInerney.

The Blazers overcame a 5-0 deficit and defeated the Pilots 6-5 on Jeff Wiand's single in the bottom of the tenth inning to score Brian Ruditys. The Blazers were paced by Dylan Tice who had three hits including a two run line drive home run to rightfield. Ryan Hartley contributed a solo home run also while Adam Zipko received the win. Tomorrow night the Blazers complete the suspended game with the Railers at 6pm and then host a nine inning game against Allentown.

The Blazers gave up a 9-6 lead and lost to the Allentown Railers 11-9 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. The second game was suspended by lightning with the Railers leading 6-1 in the top of the fifth inning. Tyler Coleman, Greg Guers and Jeff Wiand each had two hits in the opener and combined for eight RBIs. The Blazers host the Jersey Pilots on Monday evening in a make up game at 7pm in Memorial Park.

The Blazers rallied from a 7-2 deficit to defeat the Allentown Railers 8-7 on Thursday evening. Brian Ruditys' sacrifice fly to right scored Ryan Hartley with the winnning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jeff Wiand had a big night with five RBIs including a three run home run and two run single. Greg Welsh and Jim McDade hurled four plus innings of scoreless relief with McDade getting the win. The Blazers host the Railers in a 1pm DH on Saturday and are now 13-11 on the season

A single by Tyler Urps plated Westyn Baylor with the winning run in the top of the tenth inning to give the Lehigh Valley Catz a 8-7 win before a large crowd on Community Day. Tyler Coleman provided the fireworks for the Blazers with two home runs, a double and four RBIs. Matt Hollenbeck allowed only one earned run in six and two-third innings of relief for the Blazers. The Blazers host the Allentown Railers on Thursday evening at 7pm in Memorial Park.

Tyler Coleman and Dave McInerney each had two RBIs as the Blazers won the opener 7-4. Tim Wiand, Dylan Tice and Tim Ravel all contributed two hits to the offense as Colin Gotzon got the win and Adam Zipko pitched two innings for the save. In the nightcap, Catz pitchers Josh Prevost and Anthony Elia carried a no-hitter into top of the 7th inning; however the Blazers rallied for four hits and four runs in the 7th inning to win 4-3. Tim Ravel drove in the winning run with a single to rightfield. Craig Lepre broke up the no-hitter and Jerry Mulderig and Jeff Wiand followed with key hits. Nick Cassell went the distance for the win. The Blazers host North Jersey in a key doublheader on Sunday at 1pm in Memorial Park.

Tyler Brong (Lehigh) has posted a .449 average with three home runs and 19 RBIs. Catcher Dave McInerney (Cincinnati) has two home runs with a .478 average while catcher Craig Lepre (Albany) is hitting .348. 1B/DH Greg Guers (USC-Upstate) has a solid .333 average and OF Ryan Pater (St. Joseph's) has six stolen bases with a .318 average. Colin Gotzon (Lehigh) is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA and Adam Zipko (Millersville) has three saves.

Putman Signs with the Chicago White Sox

David Putman (Blazers, 09, 11) signed a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox and has been assigned to the Great Falls Voyagers of the Pioneer League. The Doylestown native served as the closer for Duke this spring and posted a 2.76 ERA with six saves in 33 innings. Chris Nichols (Blazers, 10) and Vince Voiro (Blazers, 09) were recently selected in the June MLB amateur draft. Nichols, the son of former MLB pitcher Rod Nichols and current Iron Pigs pitching coach,was selected by the Phillies in the 31st round and pitches for the Phillies' Gulf Coast League team while Voiro, a 15th round selection of the A's, will be playing for the A's team in the Arizona Rookie League.

Weinhold pitched the first five innings while Mellon received the win and Zipko the save. Dylan Tice had three hits with Greg Guers and Dave McInerney each adding two hits. The Blazers travel to Lehigh Valley for a 5pm start tomorrow and return home on Thursday evening to host the Allentown Railers.

Tyler Brong smacked 3 HR on SaturdayDespite five home runs the Blazers lost 11-10 to North Jersey in the opener as they surrendered a 10-3 lead by allowing seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tyler Brong hit a three run home run plus a solo shot to account for four RBIs. Dave McInerney added two two run home runs for four RBIs while Kyle McCrossen posted a solo home run. The Blazers fared better in the second game as Colin Gotzon allowed only one run over seven innings in the Blazers' 8-1 victory. Brong hit a three run blast in the fourth inning to pace the Blazers. Dylan Tice and McInerney each chipped in with two hits. The Blazers return home on Tuesady evening to host the Trenton Generals in a 7pm start.

North Jersey Tops Blazers

The North Jersey Eagles defeated the Blazers 3-1 on Wednesday evening. Darren Lauer, Mike Wienhold, and Taylor Runge combined to allow only four hits; however the Blazers were unable to produce offensively. Jerry Mulderig added a solo home run while Dylan Tice contributed two hits. The Blazers travel to Trenton on Friday evening and return to North Jersey on Saturday for a noon doublheader.

The Jersey Pilots defeated the Quakertown Blazers 3-2 in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader on Sunday. The second game was postponed because of heavy thundershowers and will made up as part of a 4pm twinight DH on July 26, 2012. Tim Ravel, Dylan Tice and Jeff Wiand each contributed two hits while Tyler Brong added two RBIs on a double and sacrifice fly. Bryan Morris went the distance and is now 1-1 on the season.

Colin Gotzon, Josh Mellon and Adam Zipko combined for a four hit shutout as Quakertown defeated Allentown 7-0 this evining at ECTB Stadium. The Blazers banged out 14 hits with Dave McInerney going three for four. Dylan Tice, Greg Guers, and Jeff Wiand each had two hits. Wiand's two run triple in the first inning gave the Blazers a 4-0 lead and Gotzon went five innings for the win. The Blazers will travel to Snyder Field on Sunday for a 6pm game with the Jersey Pilots.

The Quakertown Blazers defeated the North Jersey Eagles 9-3 behind the pitching of Nick Cassell who only allowed two unearned runs in seven innings. Tyler Brong and Dylan Tice paced the Blazers with two hits apiece. Tice collected three RBIs while Brong added two RBIs. The Blazers play at Allentown on Friday evening

Trenton GeneralsThe Quakertown Blazers defeated the Trenton Generals 5-2 in the opener. Tim Ravel, Dylan Tice and Greg Guers each had two hits to pace the Blazers' offense. Bryan Morris pitched five innings for the win while Adam Zipko picked up the save. The Generals won the nightcap 7-3 behind the two home runs and five RBI of Matt Moceri. Ryan Hartley posted a solo home run for the Blazers.

Former Blazer, Ryan Vogelsong Former Quakertown Blazer Ryan Vogelsong (Quakertown Blazers, 96-97) was perfect through 4 1/3 innings and allowed just two base runners in seven innings as the Giants defeated the A's 4-0 on Saturday. He allowed one hit with a walk and five strikeouts. The 6-4 RHP is now 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA and has allowed only four earned runs over 27 innings in his four starts at home this season.

Six Blazers on PSAC Honor Roll
May 3, 2012
Six former or future Blazers landed positions on the PSAC First or Second teams. Dan Johnson (Millersville) made the First Team along with Robbie Zinsmeister (IUP) and Lou Trivino (Slippery Rock). Johnson hit .360 while Zinsmeister batted .326 with nine home runs, 39 RBI and 25 stolen bases. Trivino had the lowest ERA in the conference at 1.97 and posted a 8-3 record. Matt Albaugh (Kutztown) was on the second team along with 2012 Blazers RHP Bryan Morris (Bloomsburg) and INF Tim Ravel (Bloomsburg).
