Mayza promoted to Toronto Blue Jays

Tim Mayza Photo Courtesy of Toronto Blue Jays Organization Tim Mayza (Millersville, Quakertown Blazers, 2011) will be the sixth former ACBL player to make a MLB debut this season.

The Toronto Blue Jays purchased his contract from their triple AAA Buffalo Bisons franchise on Monday.

The 6-3, 220 lb. LHP was a 13th round selection of the Blue Jays in the 2013 MLB Draft.

Mayza posted a 0.93 ERA over 11 relief appearances and 19.1 innings at Buffalo.

He started this season with the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats where he posted four saves and three holds in 33 innings.

Blazers lose to Allentown in championship series
August 6, 2017

The Allentown Railers won their third consecutive ACBL title by defeating the Quakertown Blazers 6-2 and 4-0 on Sunday before a large crowd in Memorial Park.

Rhett Jacoby (Moravian) and John Yocum (Rider) pitched outstanding games for the winners while Jared Melone (West Chester) topped the Railers offense with four hits and three RBIs in the doubleheader.

Mike Anastasia (NJIT) posted a solo home run for the Blazers in the opener while Chance DiFebbo (Delaware) added two hits. Nate Sides (Alvernia) had the only hit for the Blazers in the second game.

The Blazers finish their 34th season with a 21-17 record.

ACBL Championship series starts on Sunday at Quakertown

The Allentown Railers and Quakertown Blazers will play a doubleheader at Memorial Park on Sunday in Quakertown at 1pm as part of the final best-of-three series.

Allentown advanced to the finals by sweeping the North Jersey Eagles on Friday evening by the scores of 4-1 and 7-4.

Quakertown swept the South Jersey Giants on Thursday with a 10-9 win in the opener and a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Monday August 7th at Allentown.

Blazers move into championship series with sweep
August 3, 2017

The Quakertown Blazers defeated the South Jersey Giants 10-9 and 2-1 on Thursday in Lindenwold, New Jersey to win the semifinal ACBL playoff series.

Tom Derer (NJIT) and Tom Nuneviller (East Stroudsburg) each hit home runs in the opener.

Derer had three hits while Nuneviller, Ryan Malloy (Lehigh) and Chance DiFebbo (Delaware) chipped in with two apiece.

Chris Kachmar (Lipscomb) notched the save in the opener.

Mike Anastasia (NJIT) hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to score Blake Rapoport (Lehigh) and put the Blazers into the championship series against the winner of the Allentown and North Jersey series.

Mark Anderson (Lafayette), Chris Crookham (East Stroudsburg) and Derer combined to strike out nineteen Giants in the 2-1 Blazer win in the second game.

South Jersey Defeats Blazers
July 31, 2017

The South Jersey Giants overcame a 2-1 deficit with nine run rally in the top of the eighth inning to defeat the Blazers 10-2 on Monday evening.

Alec Craig (Chesnut Hill) had four hits for the Giants while Tom Nuneviller (East Stroudsburg) topped the Blazers with two hits.

The Blazers fall to 19-15 and close out the regular season at Allentown on Tuesday evening.

Blazers clinch third place with split
July 30, 2017

The Quakertown Blazers split a home doubleheader on Sunday with the North Jersey Eagles and moved into third place with a 19-14 record.

Alex Mack (St. Thomas Aquinas) and Mark Anderson (Lafayette) engaged in a pitching duel as the Eagles won the opener 1-0.

The second game was a different story as the Blazers posted 18 runs and 18 hits in a 18-4 victory.

Kadar Namey (Saint Joseph's) posted 5 RBIs with three hits including two doubles. Tom Derer (NJIT) and Danny Long (Monmouth) both had three hits while Nate Sides (Alvernia), JohnPaul Bell (Bucknell) and Chance DiFebbo (Delaware) each chipped in with two hits.

James Spehrely (Bloomsburg) allowed two runs over six innings for the win.

Blazers Take Two from North Jersey
July 29, 2017

The Quakertown Blazers defeated the North Jersey Eagles on Saturday in Teaneck by the scores of 5-2 and 4-3.

Joe Peluso (West Chester) pitched a complete game in the opener to get the win.

Nate Sides (Alvernia ) and Blake Rapoport (Lehigh) both contributed two RBIs. Sides, Tom Nuneviller (East Stroudsburg) and Chance DiFebbo (Delaware) each had two hits.

James Reardon (Bloomsburg) picked up the win in the second game and Chris Kachmar (Lipscomb) earned the save with 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the game.

Ryan Malloy (Lehigh) was the hitting star with four hits while Sides chipped in with two hits.

The Blazers are now 18-13 while North Jersey drops to 17-16-1.
